Tech a Look at This!

When you’re your computer freezes while you’re writing an essay, who are the superheroes who swoop in to save the day? It’s Tech support. Everyday these modern day marvels work hard to help solve your tech problems from their home in the commons. These students have worked above and beyond both in the summer and during the school year to make sure the tech in our school runs smoothly.

These students have become masters of their crafts.

“I enjoy working with computers. It’s simple once you get used to it but you’re always learning new things ” Senior Mason Manetta said.

The Scientific Method to Success

On Feb. 6-8, students showcased their science projects. Walking through the scientific method, students across all grades came up with a project. On Feb 8. science fair awards were given out. Gold, silver and bronze awards were given out based on board and interview judging scores. Judging is one of the most important parts of science fair as students receive feedback on their projects and can talk about what they worked on.

To many, presenting work and competing is enjoyable. It looks great on resumes and can motivate a student to challenge themselves.

“Competing can be stressful but winning becomes more rewarding,” sophomore and bronze medalist Steven Brooks said. “It pushes me to be the best student I can be academically.”

MPOWRD

Supporting people is what MPOWRD is all about. MPOWRD helps students overcome any behaviors that interfere with them being successful. They meet every other week and talk about addictive behaviors which can be anything from video games to drugs. These kids come to group meetings because they need support. They follow a national program model, so they have lessons that generate communication in the group. MPOWRD’s goal is to find tools to overcome the issues people identify in their lives. Ready, Set, Glow!

On Feb. 1, Winter Glow kicked off  with amazing music and great people. NHS worked diligently to put together the dance. As the night got crazier and more fun, many were heading over to the water station and as well as the sponsors, Wing It and The Human Bean.

“I thought it was fun and cold—I’m glad I went,” freshman Kylee Thomas said.

Near the end of the dance many people were experiencing the coldness of the weather and the aftermath of the paint. Although a mess to clean at home, it was worth all the fun and excitement.

“I thought it was really really fun and I’m happy they had it our freshman year and brought it back for our senior year,” senior Kendra Bialek said.

Many students enjoyed the energy boosting music and glow in the dark paint. There was jumping, yelling, screaming and fun happening all at once during this exhilarating event. Overall, it was an experience that will not be easily forgotten.

Photo 2 Visits Heritage Village

After visiting Heritage Village Assisted Living on Dec. 12, Mr. Gratzl’s Photo 2 class was full of excitement.

“I loved visiting Heritage Village, the residents were all smiling and laughing and some even wanted hugs,” sophomore Dajah Hunter said. “My favorite part was talking to them, they had really fun stories. One guy fought in World War II.”

While there, the class took portrait shots of the residents with plans of editing, printing and returning the photos as a holiday gift.

“I think the photos will make a great gift,” senior Ishani Marin said. “It didn’t seem like they had many visitors so this is our way of giving back to them and helping them feel good about themselves.”
